Along the rim of the Green River Overlook area we stopped several times to try different compositions. And, with each composition, the light changed dramatically. This image was taken just a few minutes before 8 pm just as the sun was setting and the last brilliant rays of light spread across the basin below.

Sunset at Green River Overlook (Canyonlands National Park - May 2015) Sunset at Green River Overlook

This is one of my favorite locations in Canyonlands. From this point the Green River is making its final run before joining the Colorado River. The stone monument on the right is Candlestick Tower.

False Kiva (Canyonlands National Park - May 2015) False Kiva

The hike to False Kiva is tough. The return hike to our vehicle was worse than tough as we had to gain considerable elevation in a very short distance - in the twilight and dark. But, the experience of going to False Kiva and photographing the view from there more than made the effort worthwhile. Inside the alcove where we photographed, there was virtually no sound - a stillness that was almost reverential; maybe a deep respect for the ancients who were first here. Looking out, you can see Candlestick Tower from a different direction than you viewed it in the "Sunset at Green River Overlook" image.

Here's why we didn't get to do our night photography - rain, rain, and rain. Here come the clouds and rain at Deadhorse Point State Park.

The late afternoon sun painted Skyline with a warm glow.

Dead Horse Point (Canyonlands National Park - May 2015) Dead Horse Point

The views from Dead Horse Point are as good as any you'll find in Canyonlands National Park and it isn't even in Canyonlands - Deadhorse is actually a Utah state Park.

Green River Overlook Sunset (Canyonlands National Park - May 2015) Green River Overlook Sunset

This pinon pine, growing almost out of rock along the rim of the canyon caught my eye as the sun was setting.

Morning Sunstar at Mesa Arch (Canyonlands National Park - May 2015) Morning Sunstar at Mesa Arch

Mesa Arch is famous for the beautiful sunrises that can be captured here and our stop was entirely unplanned. We were actually not intending to shoot a sunrise and were on our way to another location but decided a brief stop would be OK. And, it was. What a great location and what a view looking out beneath the arch. Click on this one to enlarge it.

Sunset at Green River Overlook (Canyonlands National Park - May 2015) Sunset at Green River Overlook

Yet, another viewpoint high above the Green River in Canyonlands National Park. The area you are viewing is called Soda Springs Basin. Weather fronts moved through eastern Utah almost hourly and at this point strong winds are making photography very challenging.
