Moulton Barn Panoramic

This was the first panoramic image I created and consists of 8 vertical images stitched together with Microsoft's "ICE" software. "ICE" is much faster than Photoshop and, best of all, is free.

Seeing the Milky Way arc over the barn was a revelation to me - I had no idea that the Milky Way ever took on that shape. The dull greenish color surrounding the barn is called "air glow" and is a natural phenomena and "caused by a reaction that happens high in the atmosphere when atoms and molecules get excited by UV rays from the sun during the day, and the release of this energy can be seen at night". The ambient light in the lower right is from Jackson, about 15 miles away.

Quotation explaining "air glow" from David Kingham's e-book, "Nightscapes".
