Hassled by the Government
All we wanted to do was take some visiting out-of-state friends to Wormsloe Plantation to see and photograph the long lane of live oaks. What we got was a State of Georgia bureaucratic blindside. "Ranger Rick" told us we couldn't photograph the lane because we were "professionals" and did not have a permit. I explained (several times) that all of us were just amateurs but he insisted we pay a permit fee to photograph (several hundred dollars). He also told us that the State of Georgia "deserved" it's cut of the profits we were going to make selling images of the oak trees. Finally, as we were nearly numbed by his stupidity (only professionals have cameras with removable lens), he relented and made all of us complete nonsensical, multi-page forms listing our equipment and attesting our amateur status. This will be my last ever trip to Wormsloe Plantation.
