The Road to Yankee Boy Basin +
The road to Yankee Boy Basin as seen from the road to Governor Basin. Yankee Boy Basin is less than ten miles from Ouray, Colorado and is probably the best known or most famous of all Colorado's wildflower basins. It's also the most visited (read "crowded") because of it's proximity to Ouray and relative ease of getting there. It's literally being loved to death. Yankee Boy's future could be tenuous, too. The basin is privately owned by a mining company and only their "good will" allows virtually unlimited access to the public. From time to time there are rumors of it being closed and a new mine opened there.
