Lawton Memorial
Overlooking the Wilmington River, the Lawton family memorial includes a sculpture of Jesus standing beside an arched gateway. Sculpted by Professor R. Romanellit in Florence Italy. Alexander R. Lawton was an important figure in Savannah's history, having held the positions of lawyer, President of the Augusta and Savannah Railroad, Brigadier General in the Army of the Confederacy, politician and President of the American Bar Association.
The inscription on the monument is from the Bible verse 1 Peter 3:7: "Heirs together of the grace of life".
Another sculpture of his daughter, Corinne Elliott Lawton, sits beside a cross.
