Monhegan Island Lighthouse +
The original granite lighthouse was built in 1824 and stood 30 feet high. After falling in disrepair it was replaced in 1857 by the 47 foot granite structure you see in this image. It towers 178 feet above the ocean. The lighthouse was automated in 1959 and is completely computer operated. Power for the light is generated by the solar panel at the bottom right of the tower.
