According to a miscreant park employee at Yaquina Lighthouse, there are hundreds of thousands of Murres (a member of the Auk family) resident to the area. A more well informed park ranger said there might be 10 - 15,000.

Murres nest in "loomeries" and lay their eggs on the rock. Living to nearly 20 years, pairs are monogamous but, like humans, may split if breeding is unsuccessful.
