The Half Dome Blue Light Special
The Half Dome Blue Light Special
There we were, all lined up on Sentinel Bridge where it crosses the Merced River with Half Dome in the background. Our focus was sharp, ISOs set at 3200, timers set for 25 - 30 seconds, apertures wide open (f2.8), focal length set as wide as the lens allows and the shutter release buttons were pushed. Great planning but, OOPSIE - the Park Rangers decided to stop a vehicle already stopped in the parking lot and, of course, "Ranger Rick" activated the blue light on top of his vehicle. The timers on our cameras completed their mission and the exposure was captured. Still the blue light continued as another evil-doer fell to Park justice. And the light kept twirling and twirling and twirling. Finally, the light is off so we can continue and ten seconds later another evil doer is stopped - this time with both red and blue lights. It was looking like our outdoor night photography session was going to be an all-nighter.
