Outlet From String Lake

This image of the Milky Way, featuring the "core" was taken at 3:30 am from a wooden bridge that crosses the outlet stream from String Lake on its way to Jenny Lake. String Lake is a very small lake just to the north of Jenny Lake.

This image is a blend of two separate exposures - one to capture the sky (20 seconds) and the second to capture the foreground elements of the image (4 minutes). These were blended together to produce an image with a recognizable foreground and still featuring the Milky Way.

The two large visible mountains on the right are part of the Teton Range. The closer and smaller peak is Teewinot Mountain (12,235') and the taller, larger peak on the far right is Grand Teton (13,770') . The light streak in the left-center is most likely an airplane.
