Doug Beezley Photography | Colorado
Colorado is a state of superlatives but none more so than the natural beauty found in all corners of the state - from the grass prairies and wheat fields on the high plains of eastern Colorado where I grew up, to the "fourteeners" of the mighty Rockies. Here are just some small glimpses for you to view and, hopefully, enjoy. The images in this album always help me "reconnect" with home.
The San Juan Mountains
The San Juan Mountains dominate the southwestern corner of Colorado and are likely the most rugged of Colorado's mountain ranges. Silver and gold brought the early settlers but they were never a match for the San Juans. I traveled to the San Juan's as part of a photo workshop where I struggled mightily to learn new skills and improve on old ones. The best part was the new friends I made. And, being home.
Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park, in the north-central Rockies of Colorado, is my favorite national park. My history with RMNP goes back to childhood vacations and to two summers working in the park while in college. Every fall, I make my annual pilgrammage to "Rocky" to photograph the elk rut and the aspen turning. I never tire of it and never will.
Fall Colorado - The Dead Tree Tour
This one is all about the aspen - their colorful leaves, the white trunks, no leaves, and the mountainsides of color. Plus, the weather! Most of all, it's about spending quality time sharing all this and much more with a good friend. The adventure continues...
Crested Butte
Many of the photos in this album are the absolute result of serendipity - I was just at the right place at the right time. My younger son, Craig, and I had planned a fall fishing trip centered around the East, Taylor, and Gunnison Rivers and the plan called for staying in Crested Butte. Little did we know that two days before we arrived, a huge snowstorm had dropped nearly 5 feet of snow on the West Elk Mountains just to the southwest of Crested Butte. I had hoped to see some aspen changing colors but was stunned at what awaited us on Kebler Pass. I hope you enjoy the drama and color of the aspen and a few of our fishing shots. That was the purpose of the trip.
