Welcome to Monhegan Island
Here's the first view of Monehegan Island after departing the ferry. That's "The Island Inn" in the background. Monehegan Island is about 10 miles off the Maine coast and is only about 1.7 miles long and .7 miles wide. It is generally believed that Monehegan Island was the first settled place in the State of Maine and documented visitors first started arriving in 1616.
